Lesson Plans

In regards to the various lesson and unit plans I have made over the years, I have decided to choose several lesson plans to highlight with brief written explanations as to why I have chosen them in particular to display.

Cow Day Lesson Plan

During my internship, I decided that I wanted my students to have as made hands on experiences as possible. So, when it came to teaching my Kindergartens about cows and what they give us in terms of food I decided to plan a whole half day of activities. In four centers, aided by parent volunteers, students got the chance to choose their favorite milk, their favorite cheese, making butter from cream and making their own ice cream. It was a very rewarding day.

Introduction to Pigs

This lesson involving pigs was the first lesson that I taught without my cooperating teacher in the room. I felt such an independence and it was very empowering for me to make my own decisions and to adapt the way tat I saw fit. The lesson itself has the students finger painting paper pigs with chocolate sauce. I also learned a lot about just going with a moment in the classroom. All of the students had chocolate on their hands and one of them asked if they could give me a high five. I said yes and the excitement level in the room soared. This lesson was one of my most fondest memories of internship.

Intro to Instruments Lesson

I am very passionate about music and believe that every single child deserves the opportunity to learn any instrument that they want to. For one of my Art Education lessons, I decided to teach my students how to play a variety of instruments (wooden sticks, bells, drums, etc.) in unison. I knew handing 16 Kindergartens instruments could have erupted in noisy chaos however, the lesson turned out exactly opposite. My faculty adviser remarked after that it was remarkable how the students listened even with the instruments in front of them.
